Revolts Refined
Friday, 02 May 2008

After a few days of testing and a lot of user feedback, we uploaded a refined version of the revolts system today.

The original version could lead to quite unintuitive results, like an army of 50 regiments being destroyed and overthrown within one day.  This led us to two major changes:

  • Large/strong armies prevent an province from revolting completely, instead of simply reducing the chance of a successful revolt. An army of 10 infantry regiments in good condition will make it impossible for a province with 25% to change over to another player.
  • Revolts attack the garrison - if the morale is very low, the mobs can destroy up to 10 units. But usually this number will be pretty small (one or two units per day).

Let us know if you think, further improvements are possible.

Praying for a Revolution
Wednesday, 30 April 2008

Today we introduce a new feature that causes uprisings in unhappy provinces. If the morale in a province drops below 33%, there is now a chance that the people of this province start to revolt and overthrow their current government. This is marked with a fist on the map.

After a successful revolt the province, and the part of the garrison that was willing to join the insurgents, will join a different nation: Either a former owner – in case the province has been recently captured – or a neighbor with the happiest citizens.

Reliable logins
Thursday, 24 April 2008

At the beginning of this month, we have introduced some major changes to how the server architecture handles user requests. This has been necessary due to the increasing number of games and players that find this game and seem to like it! Hello by the way, we’re happy you’re here :)

So although the last update raised some really dodgy problems we have worked a lot in the background and finally think that it is now stable and in fact reliable.

Speaking of reliability, we have furthermore tracked down some problems connected to the new password-less login system (some of you will remember :)) during the last couple of weeks. With today’s update we thus introduce a series of improvements that will hopefully lead to noticeably fewer failed login attempts. Since logging in is a kind of a crucial functionality for this online game (and hence for keeping you playing guys happy and new users in the game), we kindly ask from you all that you report any login problems that you might still encounter, in the forum.

And speaking of the forum, it’s new and has this fancy polling system everybody dreamed of where you actually can vote for much more than simply ‘Ay’ or ‘Nay’ to the 1916 Australian conscription referendum. So if you haven’t checked it out, do so by commenting this post and browsing it a bit.

So much for now,
still working,
your Supremacy 1914 Admins.

Reliable Connections
Monday, 07 April 2008

After quite a while without a major update, today will be the first in a row of some bigger changes to the game.

Today’s update focuses on client/server and functionality stuff that is not very visible for users but will improve the overall usability of the game drastically.

Firstly, the way the client and server communicate with each other is now a lot more reliable then before. Session timeouts that used to make the client program quit automatically after some time, are now impossible. Whenever a user requests a certain game from the server, it will be started and available within one or two seconds, even after a long idle time of the client. The client also automatically reconnects to the server once the connection has been lost without requiring a restart or new login.

Secondly, the logic controlling the embarking and disembarking of armies has been improved dramatically. Some bugs that existed before – a trick to disembark armies without waiting and computer players which could send troops into the ocean without embarking – are now impossible. The translation to the new system may cause some uncommon behaviour during the first few hours, though.

stratmap_bombardment_small2The third and most visible changes are those of the bombardment visualization. These are now shown with a red arrow from the bombarding army to its target. This makes it easier to sea at a glance what is happening on the battlefield. Also, the range of artillery is now shown at the correct locations.

We hope you like these updates – stay tuned for even bigger updates soon!

Bowling Green, Kentucky, Supremacy Gamers Home
Friday, 14 March 2008

As the latest log analysis of our webserver shows, the most active city in the world for this site is Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA. We never heard of this town but we already like it as the population seems to have a good taste when it comes to computergames. Maybe one of the many Bowling Greeners that are probably on this site right now, can step forward and tell us a little about their town and why Supremacy is so popular over there!

Another interesting town is Kingston, Rhode Island, USA. According to Wikipedia, Kingston has a population of about 5000. In the past three months, almost 900 visitors came from Kingston! That means probably every internetconnection in this town has connected once to our server.

For those of you interested in rankings, here are the top 10 most active cities:

  1. Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA
  2. Hamburg, Germany
  3. Dublin, Ireland
  4. Berlin, Germany
  5. Munich, Germany
  6. San Diego, CA, USA
  7. Beijing, China
  8. Stockholm, Sweden
  9. Kingston, Rhode Island, USA
  10. Woking, United Kingdom

If you think this ranking is strange, so do we, but this is what the log says...

Admins on vacation
Saturday, 01 March 2008

Dear users,

the whole Dev-team will be leaving for a great skiing holiday in about 30 minutes so we will not be available for support during the next week. Since the game is running quite stable right now we think that you might be able to live without us for a couple of days. When you have questions just post them in the forums, there are plenty of responsive and very experienced users around that are very likely to help you out.

For all other problems, please be patient for some days.

Have a great time playing,
your Supremacy 1914 Admins.
