Automatic Firecrackers
Friday, 28 December 2007

The new year is closing in and we just released a new update that highly improves the usability of long-range firework units. These will now automatically shell enemy armies which come into range. By this we overcome many of the drawbacks of artillery units that have been discussed in the forum lately.

Every idle army containing long-range weapons checks for enemies in range every ten minutes. The best target is selected in two steps: If an enemy long-range weapon is attacking it, the army will return fire. Otherwise, the closest enemy in range will be engaged. This works even for garrisoned armies, which can fire without leaving their garrison now.

A behavior that has been criticized is the automatic purchasing of enemies when an explicit attack order has been issued. This did not change, but in many cases it should not be necessary anymore to give orders at all. Usually it is enough to just station artillery units in a certain area.
Railguns and Battleships are now the mighty weapons that they are supposed to be. While destroying battleships on the open sea with infantry has become a very costly endeavor, the long ranged railroad cannons can help you to keep them off your shores.

Furthermore, the index of power in the Daily European is now stored for every day. As those values are only stored from now on, past days show zero points for all players. This should, of course, not bother you at all.

Please refer to the change log entry for update 0.9.46 to see a complete list of changes and bug fixes.
